Dr. Jack Burt, trumpet, served as Professor of Trumpet at the University of Maine School of Performing Arts from 2004 until his retirement in May of 2025. He taught the trumpet studio and classes in Music History. Previously, he taught at Texas A&M University-Kingsville from 1991-2004. He is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Texas, and has held principal trumpet positions in orchestras in Mexico and Texas. He has worked with members of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as international jazz soloists, James Morrison and Thomas Gansch (Mnozil Brass).
During his career, Jack has been an advocate of the German/Austrian Rotary Trumpet and has presented masterclasses on these instruments throughout the United States. In the past decades its use has increased dramatically in the US, in both professional orchestras, and also collegiate music programs.
Jack has built an extensive presence on YouTube. His videos have garnered over 1,000,000 views, and have become a popular source for instructional/informational videos on the German/Austrian Rotary Trumpet, the Piccolo Trumpet, the James Stamp Method, interviews with international trumpet artists, as well as performances of over 400 Trumpet Etudes.
Jack performs on Schagerl Meisterinstrumente, and is a Schagerl Artist and Consultant.
