Aiwen Zhang is a forward-thinking artist and classically trained saxophonist celebrated for her innovative approach to performance and multimedia collaboration. She has appeared as soloist and clinician across the United States, China, France, Germany, Japan, and Thailand, performing at venues including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts. Zhang made history as the first person of Chinese descent—and the first woman—to earn a top prize at the Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition, one of the field’s most prestigious honors. A laureate of multiple concerto and solo competitions, she holds degrees from the University of Michigan, the Conservatoire de Paris, and the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Timothy McAllister, Claude Delangle, Chien-Kwan Lin, Vincent David, and John Sampen. Beyond the concert stage, Zhang is also an accomplished videographer and visual artist, creating immersive multimedia experiences that blend music, movement, and storytelling.
