There are a number of meaningful and rewarding ways to volunteer for the NMF!

- Ushering at concerts.
- Selling tickets and merchandise at Festival “Headquarters” (in the Visitor’s Center in Chestertown) and/or at concerts.
- Driving musicians to and from the airports, and assisting with local transportation.
- Distributing marketing materials (posters, brochures, etc.)
- Hosting musicians in your home. (See more information below.)
- Helping the production crew with set-up and take-down of chairs and equipment for concerts and rehearsals.
- Preparing nametags and music folders for use at the next Festival, and helping to inventory music folders and merchandise.
- Cooking or providing snacks for musicians at rehearsals.
Every June, families in the Chestertown/Kent County area open their homes to National Music Festival musicians. While some hosts are Festival volunteers or board members, many are local residents who love music and musicians, or simply want to help. Hosting musicians is a wonderful and rewarding experience!
Hosts are recruited throughout the year, and are matched with guests in late May. Musicians are responsible for their own transportation and meals during their stay (some hosts like to invite their guests to join them for meals when possible, but this is not required). Hosts provide a place to sleep and practice. If you are able to help with transportation, that is wonderful and much appreciated, but it is not required or expected.
